Fuscotaenia Cichlid

The Fuscotaenia Cichlid (Nimbochromis fuscotaeniatus), also known as the Fusco Hap, is a large, striking predator from Lake Malawi, prized in the aquarium trade for its bold markings and impressive size.

• Size: Males can reach up to 25 cm (9.8 in), females around 20 cm (7.9 in)

• Appearance:

  • Males develop a brilliant blue body with red finnage.

  • Females are silvery brown with horizontal dark stripes.

• Behavior: Ambush predator that feeds on smaller cichlids.

• Tank size: Large aquariums are required due to their size and predatory nature.

• Water parameters:

  • Temperature: 24–26°C

  • pH: 7.5–8.5 (alkaline)

  • Hardness: up to 25 dH

• Habitat: Prefers shallow, vegetated areas and sand-rock zones in the wild.

• Compatibility: Best kept in Malawi cichlid communities with caution, as they are piscivorous.

• Diet: Accepts flakes, pellets, frozen foods, and live prey
